Homemade Corn Dogs

Posted: Wednesday, November 16, 2016

The first version of corn dogs came out around 1927 in Texas. They were invented by German sausage makers using local ingredients with their sausages. The idea of inserting a stick made them easy to handle. Since then, corn dogs have become a popular Southern food and have made their way into kitches around the world. They are also one of my favourite treats. I always use a jumbo hot dog to make them, but you can use whatever you like. To make them really special, a nice sausage can be used.

The ingredients can be altered according to you liking. For example, a little more cornmeal can be used. Don’t use too much, or they will become gritty. A few extra spices such as garlic or onion powder will never go amiss either.

As for the dipping sauce, I like a honey mustard and ketchup combination. You could also make up a dijon and mayo dip or even some Thai chilli sauce.
