Sesame is a flowering plant in the genus sesamum. Number of wild relatives occurs in Africa and a smaller number in India. It is widely naturalized in tropical region throughout the world and is cultivated for its seeds, which grow in pods. Sesame seed is one of the first oil seeds known to humans. It widely used in culinary and traditional medicines for their curative, preventive and nutritive properties.
